Kogelo, is a village in Siaya District, Nyanza Province, Kenya. It is located near the equator, 60 kilometres (37 mi) west-northwest of Kisumu, the provincial capital. Less than 10 kilometres north of Kogelo, Ngiya is located along the Kisumu - Siaya road (C30 road).
Few kilometres south of Nyang’oma Kogelo, There is a major river that passes near called Yala River flowing to Lake Victoria. The population of Nyang’oma-Kogelo is 3,648.
Kogelo has become an attractive and outstanding tourist destination in Kenya because it is the village where the US President Barack Obama’s father was born
Less than two weeks since Mr. Obama was elected to the highest political office in America and the world, all the shops at the local Nyang’oma Kogelo market have been rented out and close to 20 pieces of land have been created as expansion of the village which is fast growing.
A survey done by Real estate agents in Kenya revealed that over 50 plots have so far been sold and village is getting its first bar as tourism boom now beckons in to the region.
After reading that foreigners are buying land and begining to invest in Kogelo, I decided to call my friends and find out if they would invest in Kogelo.
In my mind I can see the need to build a hotel, theme park, restaurant for tourists visiting the area. But the question is, is this just a hype or is it a real and practical investment?
