Being a resident of Kogelo, I spent the whole of July 2011 within the village. My home is just next to the River Yala bridge.
The only comforting project going on in the village at the moment is the tarmacking of Ndori/Ngiya road which I do hope will open up the village to the outside world.
But my major worry is that the euphoria that greeted Obama's election has drastically waned and investors have turned their back on Kogelo Village.
Reason? Our government was too slow to market the village at that particular moment when it should have done so.If Kogelo Village could be relocated to Egypt or South Africa, they would have turned it into a gem!
The locals are still disillusioned hoping that manna is going to fall from heaven.
The bars and hotels being talked about are non existed. The one hotel which is still under contraction next to Senator Obama primary school is far below the standards(1 star)with nothing to write home about.
I do believe serious investors would have by now seized the opportunity to build 4 star hotel within the virgin vast land next the river with parks and serious malls. Are we forgetting that Obama is the President of the United States of America? We don't want the village which he associated with petty projects in the name of investments.
The electricity supply is a big joke.It goes off after every 30 minutes 24/7.Who would put up a heavy investment in such an environment?
It is high time we style UP kogelo people!

Being a resident of Bondo District, it is my pleasure to know that you have thought of promoting tourism in part of our country which was once remote buit not anymore, simply because you are making a decision to see to it that the area attracts tourists from all over the world. I am a student who also has the same passion to see to it that tourism is promoted not only ion this area but also in the areas that have other pottentials which have not been harnessed.
To me its thumbs up,and keep on with the work.
