Kenya Weddings: Get Married in Kenya
Kenya weddings are becoming increasingly popular. You can say the big I DO in the most exotic of places. Imagine getting married in Masaai outfits, your cake brought to you by a Maasai Moran, beautiful wildlife or sandy beach scenery? Imagine all that!!
Most people from abroad choose to have civil weddings. Below is a list of procedures required. Civil Marriage Procedures You begin by filing a Notice of Marriage form with the Registrar General' s Office at Sheria House. It costs about USD4 to do this. There is a 21 day waiting period after which you will pay about USD24. After that, one party will be required to book the Marriage date which is either on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday. If for any reason you can not wait for the 21 days, all you have to do is to apply for a special licence. This costs an extra USD76. If no objection to the marriage is raised during that time, permission will be granted. On the Marriage date both parties will go to the Registrar' s Office with two witnesses and they will be granted the Marriage Certificate. It is usually held at the local registry in Nairobi. If you prefer to have your wedding ceremony an exotic destination like the Maasai Mara like most people do, you should apply for a special licence to do so. There should be two witnesses throughout the ceremony though. There are various documents that are needed for Kenya weddings. Get the list here; |
