Conference Venues

Doing business in Kenya can be fun at times. I held a seminar recently at the Lillian Towers Hotel in Kenya for my SEO business.

Being in England, I did not have the luxury to check out the venues and was relying heavily on the internet.

Having said that, I made a few discoveries about venues for conferences.

Hotels Within Town Centre

Kenya Comfort Hotel
United Kenya Club
Lillian Towers
Sarova Stanley
Meridien Hotel
Kenya International Conference Center

Westlands and Environs

Jacaranda
Holiday Inn
Parklands Sports Club

Further Out

Nairobi Safari Park - Thika Road
Kenya School of Law - Karen

The hotels tend to include morning and evening tea with snacks, pens and paper and lunch.

In most cases, you will be be charged for the lunch per person and you will get the conference room free.

Lunches are quite expensive - about KSh 2500 per head! But with everything else in Nairobi, you can negotiate your way through. Keep asking for a better deal and eventually they will give in. That also applies to the deposit that they ask for. You can ask for 30% deposit rather than 60% or 80%.

You can get a video projector at a seperate cost. Usually cheaper to get elsewhere - I got mine from Nairobi Projectors for only Ksh 4000 and the hotel was going to charge me KSh 8000.

In most cases, you will get the projection screen for free.

The advantage of a venue close or within the city center is that the participants can easily catch a bus home. The flip side however is that there is hardly any parking for those with cars.

If you need help locating a venue, let me know. Send me an email on maggie@my-kenya-guide.com.
