Beach Safari in Kenya: Explore Fort Jeus
Baby Stephen (my nephew) at the Fort Jesus Canons overlooking the Sea
Your beach safari in Kenya should include a visit to the Fort.
It was built in 1593 by order of King Philip II of Spain shape of a man by the lead Italian architect, Joao Batista.
Situated on about 2 acres of land, the Fort is designed with a central court with 4 bastions at each corner.
At the fort, you will see the various artifacts from the era where Mombasa served as a transit point for the slave trade and commodities.
You will also see the torture rooms and prison cells where slaves were kept in captivity before being traded.
Weapons such as canons, which were used to defend the fort from invading foreigners as well as rioting locals, can be seen both inside and outside of the fort.
