Nyali Beach Hotel Kenya. You need an open mind to go to this hotel. True to its name, it is in the posh side of Mombasa. Beach properties in this area go for a fortune! It is an old hotel that has alot of character to it.

However, much of that character now leaves alot to be desired. Because of turbulent ownership issues, the current management has not managed to showcase the glory and beauty of Nyali Beach Hotel Kenya.

Just to give you abit of history – this hotel was owned by one Ketan Somaia – now in England under an arrest for fraud. The hotel was run under the Block Hotels umbrella.

Mismanagement of the hotel management company created a situation whereby loans got defaulted and the receiver manager moved in to recover their monies. The receiver manager has not done a good job in running the hotel and this is somewhat evident in the service and the hotel building itself.

If you must go to this hotel, and I guess you should, insist on the Palm wing as the rooms there are much nicer. All the rooms have balconies and face out onto the Beach. The rooms themselves are light, spacious and comfortable but the bathrooms are showing a little wear. The balconies are large and sitting out in the evening watching the ocean is quite magical.

The food at the hotel is amazing. There are different types of fish and meat dishes, desserts and tropical fruits. Try the excellent assortment of fresh fruit juices at the breakfast buffet table.

The Mombasa Roots Band sing a lot of African songs which are all very relaxing and a good way to end the day
